I have a number of issues with your platform. I, for one, would like to see many people of non-European heritage elected into the Australian Parliament, but I am confused that your main platform is the alleged human rights’ abuses against a foreign nation, when we have plenty of our own to address.
Hong Kong, Taiwan and, indeed, South Korea have never, in modern history, ever been what Australian’s would understand as being Democratic, for a start. Neither, indeed, would any Muslim nation on the planet be considered democratic as we understand it. This is not a religious or racial opinion, but an historical one. Perhaps you should research the history of Chiang Kai-shek, or Park Chung-hee or the century long rule of the British of Hong Kong or, indeed, Donald Trump, or, indeed, how Scott Morrison, with a majority of one, treats our Parliament. Why you choose your platform to centre around your claims of Chinese violations of human rights is beyond me.
The treatment of muslims in this country is as shameful as any country in the world, and yet you point the finger at China for, in my opinion, purely ideological reasons. If China’s government discriminates against muslims or political opponents, well, my friend, so do almost every Western ‘democracies’ on the planet. How many people, without trial, remain at Guantanamo Bay? We are currently having court cases against Australian soldiers who have clearly committed foul acts of murder against Muslim’s in foreign countries. But you choose to target a foreign country rather than concentrate on your own.
The Indigenous population of this country represents a little over 3% of the entire population, and almost 30% of incarcerated adults in the Australia – well over 30% when it comes to women and children. We have male, white members of Parliament who have clearly committed acts of sexual assault who will walk away uncharged, with a lifelong pension, and no doubt with a cushy corporate or diplomatic job thanks to another misogynistic, racist homophobe who just happens to be the Prime Minister. At this moment there are three Senators and two Members of Indigenous heritage in the Federal government. Five. Five people. Women are pilloried in Parliament, the most blatant example being, of course, Julia Gillard.
The USA’s history on human rights is as shameful as any in modern history, and continues to this day. American’s cannot send there children to school without a fairly reasonable assumption that they are not going to be shot to death. This year alone, to date, there have been 31 school shootings in the US. A woman can’t have an abortion, but someone can walk into our equivalent of KMart and walk out with an assault rifle. Despite the fact that slavery in the USA has been outlawed for almost 150 years, African American’s are killed in huge numbers, women raped, children murdered.
So called ‘illegal’ immigrants in the USA, almost exclusively Hispanic and foreign, are imprisoned without trial, without recourse to law, and, if they do not die in US federal prison, are sent back to violent societies from which they fled.
In Australia, poverty is rampant. Our social net is non existent. We have capitalists that commit crimes without recourse to law. We have a media that is racist, sexist and very, very white. Education has become the privilege of the white or the wealthy. Homelessness in this country is appalling. Poverty for a huge number of our people is a way of life. We are spending the best part of $100b on arming our pathetic ‘Defence forces’, and yet there are people in this country that are homeless, starving and have no hope.
If you want to make an impact on the political and social life of our country, then focus on the problems of this country and so-called Western democracies, not on China which, frankly, are doing a damn sight better that we are. Be wary. If China gets irritated at Australia, it would take them about 10 minutes to turn our country into a wasteland. Nine of those minutes would be spent deciding whether to do it or not.
I am a 55 year old white male who can trace his lineage back as free settlers to this country to 1805, and his Welsh and Irish heritage back to the 1730’s. I am disgusted and ashamed of what my country has become. Concentrate on how to fix OUR country, not someone else’s.
P.S. We do not have Zip codes in our country, we have postcodes. The USA have zip codes. Please amend your site.
